Our MISSION is to preserve and promote the cultural resources and traditions of the Konkow Maidu people.
Our VISION is to create a culturally informed, environmentally sensitive, educational venue for the public benefit.
Our GOAL is to acquire the land holding this prehistoric village site
in Concow Valley in collaboration with Soper Wheeler Company; Thermalito Water & Sewer District; Yankee Hill Fire Safe Council;
and Yankee Hill Historical Society.
JOIN US to help preserve these cultural resources located in Butte County, CA and protect the diversity of this riparian/meadow/forest habitat. We want this property to be a living laboratory for natural resource management practices as related to the local Native American cultural resource concerns.
We envision an educational community center, with hands-on environmentally focused cultural experiences demonstrating how the indigenous Konkow Maidu lived. This initial stage provides the opportunity for university students to survey a known site after 35 years since first documented.
Untold generations of indigenous people developed an advanced understanding of their environment, their place in it, and how best to utilize the multitude of resources it provided. This connection to the land is virtually absent in today’s urban settings with very little relationship to the natural environment. Personal interaction in and with the natural environment is vitally important to understanding the natural world and one’s relationship to it.
